The Albanese Government has announced a massive new rebate for home solar batteries.

The $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program will provide a  discount of around $330 per kilowatt hour on a home solar battery.

The discount is approximately 30 per cent of a typically-priced battery and this will help you reduce your power bill with solar and a solar battery.

Every home and every family is different, so please reach out to us for advice on what solar battery system would work best for you. This rebate is eligible for homes with existing solar and batteries as well.

  • Installations between 5kwh and 100kwh are eligible with up to 50kwh claimable.
  • Solar batteries must be capable of connecting to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), but there’s no requirement to join a VPP and the battery must be on the Clean Energy Council’s approved listing.
  • The subsidy is not means-tested and is available to Small Businesses as well.
  • The number of small-scale technology certificates (STCs) that a battery system is eligible for will be in reference to the kwh of usable capacity of the battery system. The usable capacity of the battery is the amount of energy that can be discharged from a battery and represents the power that a home can draw from the battery.
  • Battery system’s can be installed prior to 1st July, however they CANNOT be commissioned or turned on until July 1st.
  • Owners of existing battery systems can install additional storage and still be eligible.
  • You can only claim the rebate once per property.
  • Off Grid installations will be eligible. Eligibility is defined as being at least one kilometre from a main grid connection line or where the cost to connect to the grid exceeds $30,000.00.
  • The number of STCs will decline for battery systems installed in 2026 and later years until the scheme ends in 2030.
